Hunter Sports High Netball

23 November 2023

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— It's been a big year for Australian netball, with the Diamonds claiming yet another World Cup win in South Africa, and some of the next generation talent might well be coming up through Hunter Sports High School at Gateshead.

In late October, the under-15s Hunter Sports High netball team travelled to Wollongong to compete in the NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association Netball finals. The event brought together the top 16 school teams from across the state, and the Hunter Sports High team played a gruelling 15 games over the course of the tournament.

Despite the high-speed pace, the team performed extraordinarily well: they came away with fourteen wins and a second-place finish. What a fabulous result for the team! I absolutely applaud the players on their sportsmanship, commitment and conduct both on and off the court—they displayed strength and endurance over two big days of netball, and their sportsmanship was by all reports phenomenal. Fantastic work, girls! I would also like to thank the side's coaches, Tracey Baggs and Julie 'Julz' Fox, for their work with the side.
