Warners Bay High School Tech Girls blue screen team

19 September 2023

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— Congratulations to Imogen Smith, Sophie Elston and Ami Bromhead of Warners Bay High School, for winning the 2023 Tech Girls NSW Secondary School category.

The Tech Girls Movement Foundation campaigns for a future where women will lead and innovate across STEM fields, thus empowering themselves and bringing broader social and economic benefits. Imogen, Sophie and Ami developed, designed and produced an app called TEACHU—an app aimed at addressing the education gap which developed over the COVID-19 lockdown period. Along with an in-built chat feature which allows students and teachers to communicate, the app empowers learners to build their skills or practice their learning with tutors, study buddies and study groups.

Congratulations to the girls on working together, putting in an amazing effort and building something extraordinary and helpful. What fantastic work! I would also like to acknowledge and thank to the team's coach, Lisa Chawner, and team mentor Lyndal Hamwood.

A Community Recognition Notice is an opportunity for an MP to submit a short statement praising the work of an individual or group in the local community. If you have any ideas about people I can recognise with a Community Recognition Notice, please email and let me know!
