I acknowledge and congratulate 18-year-old Rixon Wingrove of Garden Suburb, who recently left for the United States to take up a baseball contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Rixon completed his High School Certificate at Cardiff High School in 2017. He is the sixth and youngest baseballer from Newcastle to be invited to play for a major United States baseball team. Last year Rixon represented Australia in the Under-18 Baseball World Cup championships in Thunder Bay, Canada. He is one of seven members of that team to be invited to join a United States team. Rixon is the fourth generation of his family to play baseball for Newcastle. He is a credit to the area and I wish him all the best playing with the Phillies.
