Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown) (18:38): In times of danger, the people of New South Wales know that they can count on the State Emergency Service. In the Charlestown electorate, we rely mainly on the fantastic personnel of the SES Lake Macquarie unit.
As severe weather struck the Hunter at the end of May, bringing down trees and powerlines and plunging parts of the Charlestown electorate into darkness, our local SES stepped up as they always have.
On 31 May, the Lake Macquarie SES unit received 69 calls for assistance in the 24 hours. I thank the crews for their diligence, their bravery and their willingness to assist those in need. Thanks to the Lake Macquarie SES.
