Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— Charlestown primary school teachers Travis Hawke and Brendan Jackson have been sharing their love of the outdoors with young audiences by starting their own YouTube channel called Active Adventures.
Mr Hawke is a Year 2 primary teacher at New Lambton South Public School. Alongside his colleague, Mr Jackson, a Kindergarten teacher, he launched the channel which is aimed at inspiring young children and their families to try activities and sports, and find new passions and hobbies.
Mr Jackson gained internet fame during the COVID-19 pandemic with his high-energy remote teaching videos for his Kindergarten class. Active Adventures' episodes range from mountain bike riding through Valentine reserve, hiking through Glenrock, exploring local playgrounds, cooking patty cakes and learning to play netball and other sports.
They have filmed at the Hunter Wetlands, Oakvale Wildlife Park and other local family attractions. I very much enjoyed watching their exploits cycling along my local shared pathway, the Fernleigh Track.
Their videos are brightly coloured, fun and a little bit magic.
Thanks to Travis and Brendan for finding new and innovative ways to foster a love of the outdoors in Charlestown's youngest residents.
