Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— It is very fortunate for the Charlestown electorate that Warners Bay Theatre hosts so many wonderful Opera Hunter productions, including their upcoming performance of La Boheme in June.
Opera Hunter was recognised for its contribution to the arts at the Lake Mac Awards, where it took out the Lake Mac Community Event of the Year award.
The not-for-profit organisation, which was formed in 1986, dedicates itself to presenting high quality performances to the community.
Drawing on many local talents, it presents a wide-ranging repertoire, including classic operas such as Carmen and Don Giovanni, and more modern works such as Young Frankenstein.
Opera Hunter staged four performances in 2022, and its performance of A Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder received eight CONDA nominations, the City of Newcastle's Drama Awards.
Thank you to Opera Hunter and its numerous volunteers including founding President Mercia Buck, Director Michael Blaxland who accepted the award on Opera Hunter's behalf, and supporters for continuing the hard work of enriching our region's cultural offerings. Well done to the Opera Hunter team!
