Recognising Nixon Sherry and Sachi Scowen

23 March 2022

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown): Like many of us, 10-year-old Nixon Sherry was deeply saddened bynews coverage of the flood emergency in northern New South Wales.

The Redhead Public School student wanted to do something for the people who had been forced to leave home suddenly and without warning.

Teaming up with her best friend, Sachi Scowen, an appeal was launched. Supported by class 5T, their teacher Mrs Thomas and all the Redhead Public School community, it took just a day for a large pile of non-perishable goods to start to arrive.

The goods, which included everything from nappies to canned goods, toothbrushes and two-minute noodles, have been delivered to my officeand will be part of a shipment north next week.

I am in awe of what Nixon and Sachi were able to organise in such a short amount of time, driven only by their compassion and desire to help, supported by their friends and community.

Thank you to Nixon and Sachi, Mrs Thomas, the Redhead Public School community, all those who donated, and all the many wonderful individuals and community groups who are doing their part to make sure the people affected in northern New South Wales are supported.

A Community Recognition Notice is an opportunity for an MP to submit a short statement praising the work of an individual or group in the local community. If you have any ideas about people I can recognise with a Community Recognition Notice, please email and let me know!
