Primary School Mathematics Competition

20 November 2024

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—My congratulations to the students from schools across the Charlestown electorate who took part in the 2024 Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition. Launched in 1981, the students needed to solve 35 questions without the use of calculators or rulers—and I am so pleased to say that first place in the Year 6 Division was jointly-bestowed to New Lambton South Public School students Wenhao Wei, Kai Tran and Rongda You. Ella Myers from New Lambton South Public took a second place, and Ben Taliana of Eleebana Public School took out a third place. Ahmed Sajjad of New Lambton South Public School received a Year 5 District Award in the Newcastle Division, while Levi Peterson of Valentine Public School and Taym Tohala of St Mary's Primary School Warners Bay received awards in the Lake Macquarie Division. Henry Bowen of Eleebana Public School and Jack Butler of Warners Bay Public School received Year 6 District Awards in the Lake Macquarie Division. Congratulations once again to all the students who got involved.
