Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— Earlier this month, Warners Bay High Year 12 Molly Gill represented Australia at the U18's World Baseball Softball Confederation Softball World Cup Oceania Qualifier's in American Samoa.
Featuring hosts American Samoa, seventh-ranked Australia and twenty‑third ranked New Zealand, the tournament ran from Sunday 5 November to Tuesday 7 November in Tafuna, America Samoa's most populous village. Molly plays outfield and second base, and says her ambition is to combine her academic studies and sporting talent at a high level.
Her performance at 2023 U16 Australian National Softball Championships Tournament saw her selected into the Australian National Softball Team's Talent Development Squad, indicating that she's well on her way to achieving that ambition. I am happy to report that Australian team finished second in American Samoa, meaning they were successful in advancing to the World Cup group stage next year. Congratulations Molly on this extraordinary sporting achievement! I wish you and your teammates all the best for the next stage.
