Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— I am always proud to march with my union comrades at the Hunter Workers' May Day March and it was my pleasure to do so again at the 30 April event in Newcastle.
May Day is a chance to remind everyone of the gains union members have achieved to improve their workplaces by standing together, as well as how much further we have to go in levelling the workplace playing field.
The event was an opportunity to hear from local workers and their unions about conditions, and challenges they are facing, and join with my fellow Hunter MPs in supporting the workers who are so vital to the industry of our region and of NSW as a whole.
The May Day Parade is an event I look forward to every year. It's a great opportunity to catch up with fellow unionists to celebrate what can be achieved by working collectively, and also to raise awareness of what still needs to be done. I would like to recognise Hunter Workers for their exceptional organisation and running of the event on the day, as well as all the people who took the opportunity to fly their flags proudly.
A Community Recognition Notice is an opportunity for an MP to submit a short statement praising the work of an individual or group in the local community. If you have any ideas about people I can recognise with a Community Recognition Notice, please email and let me know!
