Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—19-year-old Jemma Pollard of Whitebridge is an extraordinary athlete. After blitzing her competition in the 400-metres event at the Australian nationals in Adelaide earlier this year, Jemma went on to the World Athletics U20 Championships. The World Athletics U20 Championships are a biennial athletics tournament, where gifted young athletes from around the world gather together to compete. Some may remember when Sydney hosted the 1996 championships. This year, it was Lima's turn to host the Championships. Due to political instability in Peru, the Championships almost didn't happen at all, but I'm happy to report that they went off without a hitch from 27 to 31 August. Jemma reached the semi-finals, coming fourth in her heat. Congratulations to Jemma on her achievements so far, and thank you for representing the Charlestown electorate and Australia on the world stage. I am so proud to see young women from my electorate achieving in sports, and I can't wait to see what comes next for this amazing young woman.
