Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— On Tuesday 12 September, teams from Hunter Sports High took to Baddeley Oval in Cessnock for the Grand Final of both Buckley Shield and University Shield competitions against Westfields.
It has been some time since Hunter Sports High won these premierships: the last time they took home the Buckley Shield was in 2005, and they last claimed the University Shield in 2006. In a first for Hunter Sports High, they won both shields on the same day!
In the Buckley Shield final, Hunters Sports defeated Westfields Sports High 24 to 22. They claimed the University Shield with a romping 30 to 10 win. Outstanding performance awards in the Buckley Shield went to Tukia Fotu-Moala for best and fairest in the grand final, while Liam Martin was named player of the tournament.
Best and fairest of the University Shield grand final went to Demiah Ainuu, while Beau Slade was named player of the tournament. Congratulations to both sides on their extraordinary wins, and to all the players, coaches and supporters. Great work!
