Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—For the first time in a quarter of a century, Hunter Sports High topped the state-wide round robin open boys school soccer tournament—and went on to face off with second-placed Westfields Sports High in the final. Played at Seymour Shaw Park in Miranda on Wednesday, 28 August, the hotly anticipated match turned out to be a stunning victory for Hunter Sports High: they came away from the clash 3-nil over Westfields to claim the NSW Combined High Schools Cup. Westfields are renowned heavy-weights in the sport, but in the end it was over fairly quickly, with all the goals coming in the first twenty minutes of play. Isaac Preston-Poole put the ball away, before Reece McManus scored from the penalty spot and again with a free kick. The victory ended a nine-year title drought for the Hunter Sports High side. Reece was named player of the match, and teammate Max Miller was named player of the tournament. Hunter Sports High lost just one match the entire tournament. My congratulations to the team, coach Scott McCarter and their supporters on a fantastic tournament and a smashing victory in the final.
