Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation fundraiser

11 August 2022

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown)— Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with 57 Australians diagnosed each and every day. That equates to over 20,000 diagnoses with breast cancer each and every year.

You would be hard-pressed to find a family which hasn't been impacted by breast cancer. The Hunter Best Cancer Foundation does so much work for those diagnosed with breast cancer in the Hunter, with their slogan "Hunter People helping Hunter People" proof of their community-mindedness and focus on our area.

In particular, I would like to acknowledge the Bare Foot Bowls Fundraising event hosted by the HBCF at Alder Park Bowling Club on Saturday 30 July.

Organised by the fantastic Chevonne Parker, the event aimed to raise funds for HCBF by providing a fun day of barefoot bowls, games and activities. It was an incredible success, more than doubling their $5,000 fundraising goal and raising a total of $10,125, which is going towards providing supportive care services to local breast cancer families.

Thanks to Chevonne, Greg Parkes, Ove Lange, the Parkes and Parker family, Alder Park Sports Club everyone who donated. It makes all the difference!

A Community Recognition Notice is an opportunity for an MP to submit a short statement praising the work of an individual or group in the local community. If you have any ideas about people I can recognise with a Community Recognition Notice, please email and let me know!
