Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— The Glenrock State Conservation Area is one of the natural jewels of the Newcastle area, attracting up to a million visitors a year to its beautiful beach front and fabulous forest walks. A huge thanks to the National Parks and Wildlife staff who maintain it and plan for the well-loved park's future.
Glenrock is home to over 140 species of birds, echidnas, bats and gliders and helps protect five threatened ecological communities and seven threatened plant species, making it invaluable to protecting our unique local flora and fauna. Many Charlestown electorate locals, including me, take advantage of this lovely area right on our doorstep.
Now access to Glenrock will be easier than ever, with construction on a new 47-space carpark off Scout Camp Road due to start next week. The carpark will take pressure off the existing carpark off Burwood Road, where overcrowding has led to risky behaviour on the part of drivers and pedestrians. A big thanks to the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service for taking this step to improve safety and accessibility, and to the locals who championed Glenrock for so long.
