Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— I am always impressed by the resilience and community spirit on display in the Charlestown electorate, especially in the face of adversity. On Saturday 17 June, members of the Dudley Redhead United Football Club arrived at their home ground at Liles Oval to find that the ground had been vandalised—the turf had been torn up by a car doing donuts.
It's devastating to see this kind of behaviour affecting local kids' weekend sport, but due to the hard work of volunteers the ground was ready for the scheduled games to go ahead.
This wouldn't have been possible without the community spirit and volunteerism which is a hallmark of our community, and I was inspired by the way in which the community and local business came together to get the games on.
A big thank you to all the hard-working volunteers who do their best to give opportunities to young people in our region, particularly those who came out so quickly and with such warm spirit to support Dudley Redhead United in the face of this vandalism.
