Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— We are fortunate in Charlestown to have beautiful public spaces, beaches, parks and reserves.
Our community is very invested in keeping them pristine. Part of that effort is the annual commitment of volunteer hours to take part in Clean Up Australia Day. Community groups turned out, donned their gloves and hoisted their plastic bags, in order to take part in the March event. Thank you to all the volunteers who turned out on the day to aide the clean up effort.
A contingent turned out Dudley Public School on the first Sunday in March, while groups of volunteers were organised in Adamstown, by Bakers Delight at Warners Bay and Family Chiropractic Centre Charlestown.
Thank you to the many schools and groups who participated by holding events in the lead-up, including Warners Bay and Charlestown Public Schools, and Charlestown Childcare and Early Learning Centre.
A large haul of coffee cups, plastic bottles, chip packets, cigarette butts, discarded masks and other items were collected, sorted and appropriately disposed of. It is wonderful to see so many young people taking part in these events, which is keeping our public spaces spic and span for generations to come.
A Community Recognition Notice is an opportunity for an MP to submit a short statement praising the work of an individual or group in the local community. If you have any ideas about people I can recognise with a Community Recognition Notice, please email and let me know!
