24 September 2019

Last SundayI joined hundreds of people atLydon Oval atthevillageofDudleyto welcome home the runners from this year's Charlie's Run 4 Kids charity event, which wasfollowed by a fun day out with food, drinks, bands, kids'rides, a raffle and auction enjoyed by hundreds of families celebrating another successful run.The groupbegan their run from Seal Rocks last Wednesday finishing the 150 kilometres at Dudley. Money raised will help numerous families with kids fighting serious illnesses. The first run was held in 2013 when my constituents, Cheyne and Kylie Waddingham, organised the fundraising event to assist their friends,Brett and Mel Carr, who had a beautiful four-month-old daughter, Charlie, suffering with cancer. Unfortunately Charlie Carr lost her battle with neuroblastoma in April 2015.In the very first yearwith six runners out on the road, the event raised around $20,000. It has all been onwards and upwards since then with over $450,000 being raised for the John Hunter hospital's oncology unit. This year, money will also be donated to helpthreeyear old Frankie Ungerand his familywith his treatment ofneuroblastoma.
