Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown)—Charlie Carr battled cancer for most of her life. Diagnosed with neurblastoma before she was nine months old, Charlie fought a courageous battle against the disease for nearly eight years.
She passed away in 2015, but she has never been forgotten—and her memory is the guiding light of Charlie's Run 4 Kids, a 150km run over five days from Seal Rocks to Dudley.
The 2021 Run—which was delayed until this year due to COVID-19—was held in support of Archer, a little boy now in remission from BCOR Sarcoma, and for the family of Ashah, who passed away last year after a battle with Pineoblastoma at just sixteen months old. Charlie's Run 4 Kids concluded this weekend in Dudley, with a family fun day at Lydon Oval.
It was a fantastic event, with hundreds of people in attendance. I would especially like to acknowledge a young woman named Amber Hughes, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour and shaved her head to raise funds.
My congratulations to Cheyne Waddingham, the event's director, all the runners, and everyone who supported this extraordinary endeavour. Together they raised $131,000, an enormous help for Ashah and Archer's families.
