Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— When I joined the Charlie's Run 4 Kids crew at Adamstown station for a 5km fun run into Lydon Oval at Dudley on 12 March 2023, I was blown away by the huge effort to raise funds for local families affected by childhood cancer.
Some of the running had started their journey five days earlier and 150km away at Seal Rocks. Watching the team cross the finish line with a huge crowd waiting is always an emotional moment, and this year was no exception.
There are always some tears but also much joy at the event, which celebrates the life of Charlie Carr, who lost her battle with Neuroblastoma in April 2015 at the age of seven. It is the aim of Charlie's Run 4 Kids to take away some of the financial pressures off families of children with cancer and allow them to concentrate on their loved ones.
As usual, the community came together in a massive fundraising effort to support two local families – this time, the families of Lilah Hogan and Savannah Reading. It is a legacy that would please Charlie very much. She always wanted to help others, even during her toughest times.
A Community Recognition Notice is an opportunity for an MP to submit a short statement praising the work of an individual or group in the local community. If you have any ideas about people I can recognise with a Community Recognition Notice, please email and let me know!
