Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)— Congratulations to the Charlestown Golf Club on being named the NSW Country Gold Club of the year at the NSW Golf industry awards! The award is judged on a number of criteria, including membership, growth in revenue, golf programs and volunteer initiatives and comes after what has been an absolutely stellar year for the Charlestown Golf Club.
General manager Joanna Mantle puts the club's success down to hard work and big decisions, including what she's called a "leap of faith"—a $2.7 million investment in a new high-tech driving range, which was completed in August 2022 and has driven a spike in interest in the club, bringing a whole new demographic into golfing.
The initial projection would see the investment pay off over five years, but they've cut that down to two. Membership has grown, bar revenue is up fifty per cent, and they recorded their biggest ever profit in the last financial year. Great news all around. Congratulations to Joanna, her team, and the Golf Club board on this success.
