Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—This month, Charlestown Golf Club is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary. I wish to acknowledge the club, and all its officials, members and supporters over the last half century and congratulate them on this important milestone. The first efforts to establish a golf course came in July 1966, but it was not until September 1971 that the way was cleared to form a Club and develop an area to play. At the time of the club's foundation, fees were set $20 for full members, $10 dollars for associates, and a very 1970s discount rate for husbands and wives of $25! Today, the Charlestown Golf Club is an important part of our local community, right in the heart of my electorate at Hillsborough, with a state of the art clubhouse—a far cry from the original weatherboard clubhouse. The anniversary was celebrated with a gala dinner earlier this week. I once again offer my congratulations to Charlestown Golf Club on fifty years of golfing—here's to many more anniversary celebrations ahead!
