Art and Tea at The Place

10 May 2022

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown)—Charlestown local community centre, The Place, has been an extraordinary resource for the electorate, and I have mentioned them in this place many times.

I am happy to once again recognise the extraordinary work of the Place, its staff and volunteers. Over the last two years, as COVID‑19 lockdowns have led to social distancing and stay-at-home orders, many in our community have grown isolated and disconnected—and it is seniors who have borne the brunt of this.

In early April, as part of celebrations for NSW Seniors Festival, I went along to the Art & Tea event at The Place, which aimed to help seniors in the Charlestown area re-engage with the community after so long.

Led by Astrid Rosemergy, a wonderful local artist, the workshop was floral-inspired and full of vibrant colour and energy. My thanks to the Place and to Astrid for helping to facilitate such a great afternoon, and I'm so happy to see older members of our community reconnecting in such a positive, creative way!
