Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown)—25 November marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which starts off the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence. 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the 16 Days of Activism. It is a clarion call for individuals, institutions and organisations around the world to act for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. Unfortunately, due to Parliamentary commitments I was unable to attend the 2021 Vigil and Launch hosted by the 16 Days of Activism Newcastle, an initiative of Gender Research Network at the University of Newcastle. I would like to acknowledge the long-standing activism of those involved in the Gender Research Network, as well as the members of the local Domestic Violence Committee. I want to thank them, and the countless activists and workers who tirelessly work for an end to gender-based violence. It is through their work, and the work of victim survivors who are speaking up during the 16 Days of Activism, that we can have hope that violence of all types against women and girls will end. I say a heartfelt "thank you".
