It's hard to overstate how important greenery can be in an urban environment.
In Australia it's particularly important that we plant and cultivate our unique native flora—and there's no better way to encourage native animals and birds to visit your garden.
Trees in Newcastle is a volunteer run organisation which collects local indigenous plant seed, propagates and nurtures them for locals to use in their homes and on properties.
In NSW Parliament on May 18, Charlestown MP Jodie Harrison recognised their role in encouraging the planting of native trees in the Charlestown electorate and surrounding areas and their successful Open Day on Saturday, 7 May.
"I picked up some very affordable pea flower shrub and sea celery tube stock, and I was encouraged to see so many other locals at the event," Ms Harrison said.
"I want to give a particular thanks to volunteer Maya for the help she gave me in deciding what would work for me.
"The Trees in Newcastle volunteers are always friendly, informative and helpful. I want to thank Trees in Newcastle for all the work they've done, and I look forward to joining them again."
