Jodie Harrison Condemns the Government for Failing its Social Housing Tenants
Member for Charlestown, Jodie Harrison today put the Government on notice for its failure to provide safe and habitable housing to its public housing tenants.
Ms Harrison noted that this is Homelessness Week which highlights everyones right to safe, affordable housing.
My office has been experiencing a recent spike in social housing maintenance complaints from my constituents who are waiting too long for simple maintenance on their homes some waiting months to have kitchens and bathrooms modified to allow them to live in a safe home environment, she said.
One woman recently called to tell me she had a significant fall while waiting for a modification to her bathroom which had been recommended by an occupational therapist in November 2017, Ms Harrison said.
Two other gentlemen turned up yesterday with photos of termite infestation in their kitchen floors and tiles falling off their rooves.
This is outrageous and I call on this Government, and in particular Minister Pavey who is responsible, to ensure the maintenance contractor is undertaking the work required so these tenants can live safely and comfortably in their homes.
