SCHOOL STUDENTS STRANDED AT BUS STOPS

Member for Charlestown, Jodie Harrison in Parliament today expressed her concern at the number of school students across the Hunter who have been stranded on roadsides because buses have failed to arrive as a result of the new bus timetables and routes which commenced on 14 January.

In giving a Motion to be Accorded Priority, Ms Harrison noted that it is unsafe for school students to have to wait for more than hour for a bus to take them home.

Ms Harrison said that hundreds of her constituents had contacted her office voicing their concerns of limited operating hours, changed routes, no access to timetables, and a significant increase in journey times.

This problem has been caused solely by the privatisation of our public transport system by the Berejiklian Government, Ms Harrison said.

Ms Harrison condemned the Minister for Transport for his incompetence which has put the safety of children at risk.

I demand that Andrew Constance fix the problem with our bus system as a matter of urgency.

A public meeting is being held on Monday, February 19 at the Belmont 16 Footers from 6pm.
