Local roads and transport are a high priority for Jodie Harrison and NSW Labor.
FIX NEWCASTLE BUSES
The Liberals and Nationals privatisation of the Newcastle Buses network saw the implementation of a disastrous new network that has resulted in missed connections, late buses, stranded school children and the elderly or less-abled isolated.
Jodie Harrison and NSW Labor are committed to a full and transparent review of the network by conducting proper consultation with stakeholders and the community and redeploying buses to fix the problems.
Major priorities include: re-instating buses to Northcott Drive, re-instating better services to Whitebridge, Dudley and Redhead, and ensuring children can get to school safely and on time.
HILLSBOROUGH RD/CHADWICK ST UPGRADE
Hillsborough residents should not have to be locked in their suburb.
The residents concerns arise from the main access point to Hillsborough, located at the intersection of Chadwick St and Hillsborough Rd, where ongoing traffic safety issues arise from fast-moving vehicles, often leaving drivers waiting up to 15 minutes to exit in peak hour traffic.
Despite an eight year long campaign for safety upgrades to this intersection, the Liberals/Nationals have failed to deliver an upgrade.
Jodie Harrison and Labor are committed to installing traffic lights at the chaotic Hillsborough Rd/ Chadwick St intersection, and have been pushing strongly for the Lake Macquarie Traffic Study to be finally released so that recommendations for Hillsborough Rd are no longer a secret.
LAKE MACQUARIE INTERCHANGE
NSW Labor has committed $13 million of funding to build the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange in Glendale. Working together at all three levels of Government, Federal Labor has committed $13 million to the project, and Lake Macquarie City Council has committed $6 million.
This project involves the extension of Pennant Street in Cardiff over the main northern railway line, connecting it to the recently established intersection of Glendale Drive and Stockland Drive.
This will create a direct link between Glendale and Cardiff and reduce local congestion issues by supporting 16,000 vehicle movements each day including 1,500 heavy vehicles.
