The NSW Government has still refused to rule out increasing or broadening the GST. Make no mistake: a GST increase in the middle of a recession is nothing short of economic vandalism and it will slow down recovery.
The Opposition is steadfastly opposed to any increase or broadening of the GST, as this would hurt those who can least afford it. My colleagues and I are launching a petition so we can bring this matter forward for a debate in Parliament.
A GST increase means that every person in the Charlestown Electorate will be paying more for the same goods and services. Broadening the GST to cover fresh food, education and healthcare costs will mean the costs of those goods and services will increase. This is unfair, and we need to do everything we can to fight it.
Collect as many signatures as you can get them back to my office as soon as you can. With your help, we'll take the fight to the Government.
