05 March 2020

Today I issued a joint media release with my colleague Ryan Park MP calling for cler guidance from the Government for the Early Childhood Learning sector on the Coronavirus.

RYAN PARK MP

LABOR SHADOW HEALTH MINISTER

JODIE HARRISON MP

LABOR SHADOW MINISTER FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING

LABOR CALLS FOR CLEAR GUIDANCE FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CENTRES ON CORONAVIRUS

The NSW Labor Opposition has called for the Liberal-National Government to give clear guidance to Early Childhood Education Centres about managing the spread of Coronavirus.

Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Learning Jodie Harrison said she wanted clarification around the practice of visits with residents of aged care facilities, in the wake of news a Sydney infant has been diagnosed with Coronavirus.

After poor advice around bushfires and air quality, the Government must guarantee that all centres and parents understand such visits are for the time unwise, Ms Harrison warned.

While such visits are ordinarily to be encouraged, during this growing infection period we call on the Government to ensure clear guidelines include advice suspending the practice, Ms Harrison said.

Labor has written to the Government offering bipartisan support to lobby the Commonwealth for an immediate increase in funding to cope with the growing concern around the Coronavirus.

Shadow Health Minister Ryan Park said funding is needed to support health services right across NSW as they prepare and deal with the ever changing nature of this outbreak.

NSW Labor has made it clear we will work with the Berejiklian Government in advocating for additional funding from the Commonwealth. Its vital we are prepared and have the resources to cope with a widespread outbreak.
