BEREJIKLIAN GOVERNMENT REFUSING TO HAND OVER FUNDING TO KEEP COUNCIL-RUN CHILDCARE CENTRES AFLOAT

Councils are still waiting for the Berejiklian Government to deliver on its $82 million council childcare centre package. It has been almost one month since the announcement yet several councils have confirmed they still have not received a single cent from the government as part of the package.

NSW Labor condemned the government for failing to deliver on its promise in a timely and efficient manner.

This government is like a mate at the pub who always heads home before its their shout, Labor Shadow Minister for Local Government Greg Warren said.

They talk the talk but when it comes time to put their hand in their pocket, they are nowhere to be seen.

The anxiety and stress levels of councils, staff, parents and children are heightened every day this government refuses to hand over the funds as promised.

Labor Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Learning Jodie Harrison, added: If the Government was serious about ensuring that quality providers of early childhood education such as Councils remain viable they would have handed over funding weeks ago.

This tardiness in keeping their promise really brings into question their commitment to quality early childhood education, and keeping parents able to participate in the workforce. They cannot say early childhood education and care is important and then not keep their promise to keep it viable.
