Research has revealed that Hunter parentsare paying more for public school education than ANYWHERE else in NSW, and spendingan estimated $17,000 more on childhood education than the average Australian family. NSW Labor aims to put an end these costs on Hunter families with the following policies:
Free Transport for School Children
Only NSW Labor will provide free public transport for all school children on the Opal network, giving free public transport to kids travelling anywhere, anytime.
$5000 Yearly for P&C's
I've met with many P&C representatives in my time as State Member, holding roundtables and meetings, to discuss fundraising for what seems like a never ending list of school needs. Labor, if elected in March, will give $5,000 a year to every public school P&C to help tick off those long awaited purchases.
Cool Schools
Yesterday it reached 36 degrees in Charlestown, but not allschool children weren't in air-conditioned classrooms. If elected, Labor will air-conditionevery public school classroomin NSW.
Saving Parents from the 'Double Drop Off'
New multi-purpose education precincts being built by Labor will include either a preschool, a long day care centre or out-of-school hours care.
Glasses for Kids
Under a Labor Government, 52,000 K-3 students who attend state schools with the lowest socio-educational index will have their eyes checked and if needed glasses provided at no cost.
