I join with NSW Labor Leader Jodi McKay MP in expressing my sincerecondolences to the families, friends and colleagues ofGeoff Keaton andAndrew O'Dwyer, Volunteer fire fighters from the Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade.
This is the statement from Jodi McKay MP, on behalf of NSW Labor:
Our entire State grieves today at the loss of two Rural Fire Service volunteers while on duty in south west Sydney overnight.
As fires ravage our communities, these two heroes have made the greatest commitment - the greatest sacrifice.
On behalf of NSW Labor, we express our profound condolences to their families, friends and colleagues. We mourn bitterly but we are fiercely proud of them.
This news has hit especially hard for the Horsley Park brigade to which they belonged, and includes the Member for Prospect Hugh McDermott who was fighting at Green Wattle Creek with his crew yesterday.
The RFS is a big family on days like these and so is our State.
We pray for the crew members who were injured in the tragedy and all firefighters injured from battling blazes across our State.
This is a day to honour all our firefighters, volunteers and responders.
Every single person who puts themselves in harms way, as the rest of us go about our day, even as we sleep.
NSW owes them an incredible debt.
