Jodie Joins Colleagues in Calling for Defence Personnel to Assist Fire Fighters

09 December 2019

Our firefighters are doing a heroic job but they are exhausted. In many cases we are relying on weary volunteers working night after night who cannot be expected to sustain this effort indefinitely.

There are several agencies involved, alongside the RFS, in efforts to deal with the bushfire emergency and whatever further assistance might be required should be called in as determined by the lead agency, the RFS.

Australian defence personnel can be involved in essential logistics and support activities like fire trail cutting, delivering water, road clearing, and transporting and feeding crews.

Its the Premiers job to expedite this help to fire ravaged communities. She needs to provide clarity on the precise extent of defence personnel involvement that is envisaged or currently underway.

We need to know how many defence personnel are in the field and where. These are the questions that communities across NSW want answers to.

On Saturday the Prime Minister is quoted as saying the Commonwealth stands ready to provide whatever further assistance the NSW Government asks of us.

I join our NSW Labor Leader Jodi McKay MP, and Trish Doyle MP, the Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, in saying the Premier needs to be asking!
