Yesterday I gave a Notice of Motion about social housing maintenance in our local community.
I was grateful to be able to speak about the Government's failures on ABC Newcastle. This is my media release on the issue:
Member for Charlestown, Jodie Harrison today put the Government on notice for its failure to provide safe and habitable housing to its public housing tenants.
Ms Harrison said her office had experienced a recent spike in social housing maintenance complaints from constituents waiting for simple maintenance on their homes some waiting months, even years.
Complaints have included mould, bird lice, sewer overflows, termite infestations and a lack of bathroom modifications for people with disabilities, she said
This is outrageous - the Berejiklian Governments rampant outsourcing and privatisation agenda have contributed to this problem.
Today I have called on the Government, and in particular Minister Pavey who is responsible, to stop treating these people like second class citizens and just fix their problems.
