Loose-fill asbestos is raw, crushed asbestos that was installed as insulation in the 1960s and 70s. Over time, hazardous airborne fibres can move from the ceiling into the living areas of a home.

This type of insulation was known to have been installed in some houses across the Charlestown electorate. Loose-fill asbestos is different to other asbestos products such as fibro sheeting or roofing.
