Caring for the all-round wellbeing of support staff will deliver better outcomes for clients living with a disability, and Charlestown service Includa is passionate about supporting its staff.
Includa creates autonomous and community-based teams, designed to help their clients with community connections, community independence, education and employment, online support and independence at home.
Jodie Harrison MP, Member for Charlestown, recently visited Includa in Charlestown alongside Minister for Work Health and Safety, the Hon. Sophie Cotsis MP for a tour of the service, and heard directly from the team about the challenges they face and joys they experience as disability support workers.
Ms Harrison shared her experience in NSW Parliament.
"I would like to thank Includa director Mitchell Jones for showing us around, and for giving us first hand information on the experiences of disability support workers in our region," Ms Harrison said.
"The Minister was in the region alongside SafeWork NSW to observe compliance checks targeted at disability service providers. Disability support is challenging and complex work, and it is important employers ensure workers get the support they need to prevent psychological and physical harm.
"My thanks to Mitchell, the Includa team and all the Charlestown electorate disability support workers for the amazing work they do."
