Jodie Harrison MP, Member for Charlestown, was pleased to join in National Reconciliation Week activities with the students, staff and artist Jakeob Watson at Goodstart Early Learning Mount Hutton.
Goodstart Early Learning welcomed the local community on Friday 2 June for a special afternoon of art immersion with Jakeob, their artist in residence, as part of their National Reconciliation Week celebrations.
Jakeob is a proud Gomeroi man with deep connections to Wonnarua country and lots of experience working with young people to teach culture, well-being and art through his perspective.
On 22 June, Ms Harrison recognised the importance of Reconciliation Week in NSW Parliament.
"This year's National Reconciliation Week theme was "Be a Voice for Generations", underscoring the importance of a multi‑generational approach to reconciliation. Reconciliation is a year-round priority at Goodstart, and National Reconciliation Week is a particular chance to highlight the importance of culture, community, connection, art exploration, joy and knowledge," Ms Harrison said.
"It was a fantastic afternoon, and it was wonderful to see the community come together and celebrate National Reconciliation Week.
"I would like to thank centre manager Paige Smith and her staff for inviting me, the students for being such good hosts and Jakeob for his fantastic work."
